The Detroit Tigers are counting on a hockey executive to help them end their soon-to-be nine-season postseason drought.
The team has hired Jeff Greenberg to be their new general manager, and he is the former assistant general manager of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks.
Greenberg is not a stranger to the MLB, however. Before his stint with the six-time Stanley Cup champions, he spent 11 seasons working with the Chicago Cubs in various roles.
He started working for the Cubs in 2012 as an intern in the baseball operations department, going up the ranks as director of baseball operations in 2018 and director of professional scouting in 2019.
Greenberg became the team's assistant general manager in 2020, holding the post until 2022, when the city's NHL team hired him to do the same role.
"Throughout this search, it was important for me to find someone who can fit seamlessly into the culture we're building here," Tigers President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris mentioned in a press release.
Harris also said that he wanted to bring in someone with a fresh perspective and new ideas that could challenge the front office daily as they strive towards bringing postseason baseball back to Detroit.

The two worked together for several seasons with the Cubs, with both entering the team in 2012.
Harris was named the team's Director of Baseball Operations in 2012, and he became assistant general manager in 2018 before departing after the 2019 season.
