The Miami Dolphins showcased an exceptional offensive performance, securing a one-sided 70-20 victory in their home opener against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, September 24, at the Hard Rock Stadium to improve to 3-0 for the season.

Dolphins star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had an impressive start, completing his first 17 passes in the game. The 25-year-old finished with a remarkable performance, going 23-of-26 for 309 yards and delivering four touchdowns.

"This doesn't compare to anything I've seen or been a part of," the 2022 Pro Bowl selection said.

Meanwhile, running back Raheem Mostert, who had 82 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, thought they already did enough damage, electing not to go for the NFL record.

"And the way [head coach Mike McDaniel] Mikey handled it, I call [McDaniel] Mikey.. I think that it was very professional," the 31-year-old said.

Dolphins on the cusp of NFL history

The remarkable display saw the Dolphins on the brink of NFL history by scoring the second-highest number of points by a team in a regular season game and the third-most ever, including playoffs.

The highest single-game scoring record in the NFL stands at 73 points, achieved by the Chicago Bears during the 1940 NFL Championship against the then-Washington Redskins, who did not score in the game, also the most lopsided game in league history.

Meanwhile, the regular season record for points in a single game is 72, a feat accomplished by Washington Redskins in 1966 against the New York Giants, who scored 41.
