Former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams, who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Buffalo Bills during the early 2010s, tragically died on Tuesday due to injuries suffered in a construction site accident. He was 36 years old.

Williams was working on the construction site when a steel beam fell on his head, according to his father, Wendell Muhammad, who detailed the incident in a GoFundMe page.

The accident caused swelling in Willams' brain and spinal cord, which got ruptured. The former Syracuse player suffered complete paralysis in his right arm and his lower body from the waist down.

Williams never regained consciousness after he passed out last Friday when doctors reported that his lungs were filled with water.

Mike Williams played five seasons in the NFL

Williams was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft with the 101st overall pick.

He went on to play four seasons in Tampa Bay and spent his final season in the NFL with his hometown Buffalo Bills in 2014.

The late 36-year-old signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2016 offseason but was waived before the campaign started.

Williams was able to play in 63 NFL games, being a starter in 52 of them. He made 223 catches for 3,089 yards and scored 26 touchdowns.

During his three-year college football career at Syracuse, Williams put up 2,044 yards, 133 receptions and 20 touchdowns.
