New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones will not see jail time after prosecutors dropped eight of the nine weapons charges against him following a June arrest.
Instead, Jones will serve one year of probation and 48 hours of community service in a verdict handed out at a Boston Municipal Court on Tuesday, September 5.
Prosecutors explained the decision by saying that it cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the Patriots player knew that he possessed the firearms in his bag at the time of the incident.
"Jack is grateful to have the case resolved and is looking forward to playing football," Jones's attorney, Rosemary Scapicchio, said.
The 25-year-old has cleared all legal hurdles on the incident. He is expected to be available as the Patriots open the 2023 NFL season against the reigning NFC champions, Philadelphia Eagles, at home at the Gillette Stadium on Sunday evening.
However, the NFL still decided to discipline Jones based on their conduct policy.

Jones, who is entering the second season of his NFL career, was arrested on June 16 after two firearms were found by authorities in his carry-on luggage at Boston's Logan Airport.
The 121st overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft was charged with two counts of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card, unlawful possession of a fireman, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.
He pleaded not guilty and posted a $30,000 bail.
