Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce's status for their season opener against the Detroit Lions on Thursday is in doubt, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
During team practice earlier today, the 33-year-old hyperextended his knee, but his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) remains intact despite ongoing inflammation.
Sources added that the two-time Super Bowl champion evaded a long-term injury.
Kelce will undergo a second round of tests on his knee on Wednesday, September 6, to determine his status for the Chiefs' Week 1 game, a source told NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The eight-time Pro Bowl game selection caught 110 passes for 1,338 yards with 12 touchdowns during the 2022 NFL season.

Kelce was able to walk on his own
Wide receiver Skyy Moore shared that the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team member was able to walk on his own despite the scary injury, which could easily be worse than it looked.
"He was limping when I saw him, like, just walking off the field. It was a good sign to see him get up by himself and get off the field," Moore said.
The four-time First Team All-Pro has not missed a game due to injury since his rookie season 2013. He only missed a couple of games for the past few years due to rest and COVID-19.
Kansas City have two other options in the tight end position in their squad - Noah Gray and Blake Bell.
