The Las Vegas Raiders are set to have more financial flexibility for the 2023 NFL season.

The team modified the terms of Jimmy Garoppolo's three-year contract worth $72.75 million that he signed as a free agent in March.

It is unclear how the Raiders tweaked the former New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers quarterback's deal, but the restructured contract gave the team an additional $17 million in cap space.

Before the move, the Raiders were $7 million above the salary cap, the second-worst in the league behind the defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs.

Las Vegas now has nearly $11 million in salary cap space for 2023, which is currently the fifth biggest in the NFL so far.

The Raiders will now have the room to make additional in-season moves once needed.

Jimmy Garoppolo's cap hit lowered

According to Marcus Mosher of the Raiders Wire, the 31-year-old quarterback's cap hit was lowered for the upcoming campaign.

This could mean the two-time Super Bowl winner could stay in Las Vegas through the 2024 season.

Garoppolo spent the last six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, leading the team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2019 and the NFC championship game in 2021. Despite the success, his time in the Bay Area was riddled with injuries.

He was previously the backup quarterback of Tom Brady with the New England Patriots.
