Giannis Antetkounmpo could leave the Milwaukee Bucks soon unless the NBA franchise proves they are ready to compete for a championship.
After winning an NBA title in 2021, the "Greek Freak" appears to have had enough of losing and falling short of winning another ring. This is why Giannis Antetokounmpo says he will hold off signing a contract extension until he is convinced the Bucks can compete for an NBA championship.
Given his pedigree, there is no doubt that multiple NBA teams would take interest in the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player. However, getting Antetokounmpo will cost any team a lot of assets to consummate.
The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks would have been ideal to satisfy Antetokounmpo's NBA title cravings. Unfortunately, both lack the assets that may be needed.
The salary cap is seen as the biggest obstacle to getting Antetokounmpo, assuming he does decide to jump ship. The San Antonio Spurs are one of several teams who can afford the 15th pick of the 2013 NBA Draft.
Aside from that, it would be a chance for Antetokounmpo to form a lethal twin-tower combo with Victor Wembanyama, Heavy.com suggests. This is on the premise that the 7-foot-4 French player can live up to the hype of being the next big thing the NBA has had.
However, the Spurs may have to give up several players who have carried them through the years, such as Keldon Johnson and Jeremy Sochan, plus more. This scenario is possible, but only if Antetokounmpo is willing to wait and be part of a rebuilding process that may take several years to accomplish.
