The Philadelphia 76ers have backed out of trade talks to deal star point guard James Harden, who opted into his player option in Philly earlier this offseason, expecting to be traded away from the team, per Sam Amick of The Athletic.
The 33-year-old couldn't find a preferred team in free agency with the cap space to afford his $35.6 million player option for the upcoming season, leading him to re-sign with the Sixers and work on a trade to find a suitable exchange of assets.
However, the franchise could not find a deal to their liking, and they plan to bring in the disgruntled star to training camp to prepare for a shot at the championship this 2023-24 NBA season.

Harden disappointed with lack of extension
The 2018 NBA Most Valuable Player was unhappy with Sixers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey for not offering a long-term maximum-level contract extension after his expiring deal, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The league insider added that the Sixers are setting up an uncomfortable situation by bringing in the superstar shooting guard with a non-championship mindset in the training camp.
Harden remains adamant about his desire to be traded to his preferred destination -- the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Sixers and Clippers have previously engaged in conversations to deal the ten-time All-Star, but no traction materialized.
