A famous footballer once said that wherever he goes, he generates attention.
It was not Lionel Messi who said that, but that's what he did during his short time in Miami.
The Argentinian joined Inter Miami last month, and already, he has taken his club to great heights that make other historic clubs from Europe look smaller.
Inter Miami became the most searched club on Google ever since Messi's arrival, according to Jeffbet.
Search for the MLS club soared to "10,426% compared to average levels since the club was established in 2018, reaching all-time highs." The figures significantly dwarfed searches for the English club Manchester United.
Statistics also showed that Messi generated more searches after he scored his first goal in his debut vs. Cruz Azul.
JeffBet's report revealed a 6,111% increase in the search for "Inter Miami jersey" after Messi's debut, a 62-fold increase compared to June.
Inter Miami became bigger than Manchester United on the internet
The MLS club has no match compared to those from Europe in terms of cultural influence, but over the internet, data showed that the American club dwarfed even Premier League's Manchester United.
A spokesperson from JeffBet said:
"Messi continues to prove his influence over the game, drawing attention to major league soccer and sending ticket prices skyrocketing as fans clamor to catch the legend in action. As Google data shows, search interest in Inter Miami has grown so big that it's overtaken one of the most popular clubs worldwide, with over eight million people searching for Inter Miami in a month, raising the club's and sport's profile to new levels".
