New York Giants can heave a sigh of relief as Sterling Shepard has been removed from the physically unable to perform list.

This is the second straight season the wide receiver has been placed on the PUP list, and now, he is taking caution.

He believes last season's case is 100 percent because of his intense training, pushing himself over the limit.

So this time, he wants to be smarter with his health.

"I'm going to be smarter myself in what I allow myself to do and not really push back. Because I'm one of those guys that likes to keep going and going and going," Shepard told reporters after a successful first day in the training.

"And I know I have to take my time this time and do things different than I have in the past. And just be patient."

Shepard, who re-signed on a one-year deal this summer, only played three games last season and missed the playoffs due to an ACL injury incurred in a game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Shepard sets sight on Super Bowl

Individually, Shepard wants to take it step by step, but in terms of a team goal, he said they are after the biggest team ware this season.

"We've got to work our way to get back to a playoff team, but that's not ultimately the goal for us," Shepard said Sunday.

"Our ultimate goal is to put a banner up here ... [Coach Brian Daboll] tells us that every day. Exactly what I just told you is what he tells us. That's what our goal is. It's not to make the playoffs."

Huge expectations from Shepard. Are the Giants contenders this season?
