New York Yankees rookie Anthony Volpe was introduced to the scary side of the big league in their win against Colorado Rockies on Saturday after a fan stormed the field and ran to him before getting stopped by security.

The fan was overly enthusiastic and sprinted towards Volpe, yelling something before throwing a shirt at the 22-year-old.

Volpe, who joined the Yankees at the start of the season, admitted that he did not expect a field stormer running up to him.

"I was pretty startled by it all, but I thought the stadium security did a great job and got him out of there," Volpe said after the game, which they won 6-3.

Manager Aaron Boone also praised the security for their quick response before anything worse happened.

"Usually it's just some drunk idiot running out, having fun on a bet," he told reporters.

"He looked like he was mad at something. Glad they were able to secure him and nothing major happened."

The Yankees lose the next game and the series against the Rockies

Fans and the team can heave a sigh of relief that Volpe was safe, but when it comes to their performance in the next game, it looked like there was much more to do.

The Yankees just recorded what could be their season's most painful loss in Colorado a day after their victory, 8-7 F/11.

It looked like victory was already in the visiting team's pocket until Alan Trejo happened. The Rockies shortstop hit a walk-off home run against Ron Marinaccio in the 11th inning to seal the victory for his team.

Before that, the Yankees sat comfortably in the driver's seat with a two-run lead in the eighth inning.

The loss brings the Yankees to the bottom of AL East with 50-44, 4-6 in their last 10.
