Kelsey Plum was firing on all cylinders on Sunday night, putting up 40 points on an efficient 14-of-18 shooting, including 6-of-9 from three and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
The 28-year-old point guard added four assists and two rebounds as the Las Vegas Aces dominated the Minnesota Lynx, 113-89.
The 40-piece was a career-high for Plum and a franchise record for most points scored by a player in a single game for the defending champion Aces. Her previous scoring high was 26 points.
Plum's 14-of-18 shooting (77.8%) performance is also the highest field goal percentage in a 40-point game in WNBA history.
The 5-foot-8 point guard was selected with the first overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft by the same team, then known as the San Antonio Stars. The franchise moved to Las Vegas in 2018 and has since won the 2022 WNBA Championship.
Plum was named the WNBA Sixth Player of the Year in 2021 and the WNBA All-Star Game MVP in her first selection in the exhibition game in 2022. She was also named in the All-WNBA First Team in the same year.
Aces bounce back from rare loss
The Aces improved to 17-2, the best record in the league. They were hit with a rare defeat during their last game against the Dallas Wings, who narrowly got away with an 80-78 win last Friday.
Dallas forward Natasha Howard nailed two game-winning free throws with 0.4 seconds to play to win the game for her squad.
