The matriarch was the only woman ever to attend all editions of the Super Bowl, from the first one in 1967 to the most recent one last February, which saw the Chiefs win the Vince Lombardi Trophy over the Philadelphia Eagles.
"This February, she attended her 57th and final Super Bowl and watched her beloved Chiefs hoist the Lombardi Trophy for the third time," the Hunt family statement read.
The statement added that the Chiefs' recent Super Bowl win was a fitting conclusion to Hunt's streak as the only woman to attend every Super Bowl. The family called their mother kind, generous, unfailingly positive, and one of a kind.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also extended his deepest condolences to the Hunt family.
"The entire NFL family is deeply saddened by the passing of Norma Hunt, who was a significant presence in the NFL for the last seven decades," Goodell said on Sunday.
Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt, Norma's husband, previously died in 2006 due to complications from prostate cancer.
