Google has recently rolled out the developer preview of their latest operating system version, Android 8.0 "O." The latest update brings a myriad of exciting new changes to the entire system that also includes improvements to existing features found on Android 7.0 Nougat.

Regarding the "O" initial, many believe that it refers to Oreo. That's not surprising as Google has a tradition of naming its operating system after sweets, for instance Jellybeans, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, and Nougat. Google certainly won't have any problem using the Oreo brand name, according to GigJets.

Android 8.0 Oreo can be downloaded by the following Google Smartphones, which includes Nexus Player, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel, Pixel XL, and Pixel C. As Google's latest operating system is still in Beta phase, bugs and glitches might also exist, which can also make the platform quite unstable.

As reported by BGR, Android 8.0 Oreo will see improvement in the device's battery life. This feature will help in reducing the power consumption for background activity in order to conserve the battery life. It is also claimed that Google's latest operating system will bring in many improvements to the MediaRecorder API and other "enterprise stuff" too.

Android 8.0 Oreo will have noteworthy features like notification categorization, Picture-in-Picture mode, and connectivity improvements. The Picture-in-Picture feature will make the copy-and-paste activity. Another component added to the list is the Google Assistant.

The upcoming Android 8.0 Oreo OS will also come with app notifications icon badges which display how many notifications an app has. The icons' images will also change depending on certain parameters in the latest OS, just exactly like the Calendar icon in Android 7.0 Nougat.

Those who don't have the compatible phones mentioned above can still download the OTA update for Android 8.0 on Google's official Android Website. However, the official public version of Android 8.0 Oreo is expected to be announcing sometime after the upcoming Google I/O 2017 event in May.
