New Orleans coach Sean Payton has claimed that his team will not sign New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler on an offer sheet and give up on the No.11 pick. Malcolm Butler is on his own adventure season where he can pick a team but not the Saints.

In an annual league meeting which took place on Wednesday, Payton said he understands that the player hasn't signed his tender so far. Furthermore, he said the Saints would want to sign him on offer sheet but it is highly unlikely that they'd do it and give up on the 11th pick in the process. He is satisfied with the current situation and nothing will change unless something drastic takes place.

These comments from Payton on Wednesday has ended Butler's hope of gaining a long-term deal anywhere other than the Patriots. The coach will obviously not talk about any rumors or any potential trade scenarios that can by chance bring Butler to the New Orleans.

For Malcolm Butler, the situation gets more peculiar, if the Saints don't take him on an offer sheet then his only hope of leaving the Patriots by a trade which seems unlikely at the moment. Meanwhile, Patriots owner Robert Kraft has claimed that his team is not looking forward to trading Butler currently.

If New Orleans doesn't offer Butler the contract and other teams also don't offer him anything, then the cornerback may well have to sign a free-agent tender at the Patriots which is quite restricted. If that situation arrives, the Patriots will have no option but to trade the player to his highest bidder. This will enable Butler to get a long-term deal somewhere.

If no one offers Butler a contract this time, he would well play this season out on a low $3.91 million tender before getting unleashed on the market next time.
