Google introduces a new section on the Play Store called "Free App of the Week" in the US. Users are happy with this feature but the tech giant has not confirmed whether or not this will be a full-time feature. Its biggest competitor Apple already started offering the same since 2012.

Since some time, users have seen many great deals on apps and games that Google allowed to go on sale temporarily. According to Android Police, Google has added a "Free App of the Week" section of the Play Store in an effort to highlight these sales. Users can find this section on both desktop and mobile. The featured app currently available is "Card Wars - Adventure Time" and is available for few more days only.

Play Store recently turned five. It has grown rapidly and became one of the largest app repositories. Google tried the similar thing in the past but discontinued without saying anything. As written in TechnoBuffalo, Google Play Store's "Free App of the Week" section offers Android users a premium, paid title at no cost for a limited time. The game "Card Wars - Adventure Time" that normally costs $2.99 will be available free for one week.

Google lets developers decide when their titles should be available at no charge. There will be another app available after one week. Once it is claimed from the "Free App of the Week" section, it can be kept permanently. Google has currently started this initiative in the US but users from other markets can simply search for this game, it is available free in the Play Store currently.

Like Google, Amazon is also giving away one free app every day through its own app store. It also made $110 bundle of apps and games available for free to promote its app store. Google has not yet announced whether or not it will release "Free App of the Week" section in other markets or it will be continued in the US.
