Gennady Golovkin is one of the best pound-per-pound fighters alive today. The boxer from Kazakhstan sports an unbeaten record of 37 victories and 0 losses with 33 of those fights ending by way of knockout. But judging from his last fight, kinks in the boxer's armor are starting to show which Billy Joe Saunders plans to expose in their eventual matchup.
In his most recent bout, Gennady Golovkin narrowly escaped a victory over Daniel Jacobs. Some media outlets even have the American winning over the champion. Jacobs brought in a unique mixture of power, speed, size and stamina that gave the unbeaten fighter problems throughout the fight. Billy Joe Saunders will look to improve upon Jacobs' style in order to beat "GGG."
For Billy Joe Saunders, fighting Gennady Golovkin is his top priority. According to the Sun, Saunders is willing to fight "GGG" anywhere including in his country of Kazakhstan. The British boxer holds the WBO Middleweight title which makes the unification bout between Golovkin more interesting.
The winner of the Saunders and Golovkin fight will crown the undisputed middleweight champion. Golovkin holds every major middleweight belt with the exception the WBO title which is held by Saunders.
Saunders sports a similar undefeated record in 24 professional bouts. The Britsh boxer criticized Golovkin's performance calling it terrible. He adds that Jacobs did a good job of negating "GGG" and mentions that he will do a better job.
On the other hand, Gennady Golovkin also shares the same sentiments of his likely opponent. After his victory over Jacobs, Golovkin says that his goal in to win all the belts in the Middleweight division. And only a victory over Saunders can make his goal a reality.
Meanwhile, a fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is what fans are waiting. But according to De La Hoya, Golovkin must accept the fact he is the B-side fighter which will make the negotiations harder. It's more likely that Saunders will be his next opponent and that wouldn't be much of a deal breaker.
