The New York Knicks started the season full of hope as acquisitions of two high-profile players in Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. But with the regular season ending and 15 games under the Playoffs, the season for the Knicks is nothing but a disappointment. Joakim Noah is injured and Derick Rose is a shell of his former self and both have not helped the Knicks' chances. Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks' rising star says the problem within the team has been the same ever since.
In a report from CBS Sports, Kristaps Porzingis says that the problem with the New York Knicks isn't with talent but rather the chemistry. According to the rising star, talent can only take a team so far but won't last long as proven by their 27-42 record. He adds that a good team needs time to play together and comments that a team can't be a title contender with a bunch of new players. But for him, that excuse isn't enough to justify their performance.
Kristaps Porzingis and everyone from the New York Knicks expected a return to the Playoffs earlier in the season. It's clear now that that isn't happening this season. He admits that the team isn't at the level that it needs to be in order to compete for a title, much more for a Playoff spot.
For the New York Knicks, team chemistry has been an issue way earlier in the season. Looking back, Kristaps Porzingis made the same comment after a loss to the Indiana Pacers according to the New York Post. Brandon Jennings, who played with the Knicks earlier and has now transferred to the Wizards also said the same thing after joining his new team.
The question now is what Kritaps Porzingis and the New York Knicks will do in the future. Porzingis is still under contract with the team until 2020. That gives the Knicks several more years to build a contender around Kristaps. But by then, Carmelo Anthony, the team's primary star would have his output severely diminished as seen in his decline in production. If the Knicks can't change their culture anytime soon, Kristaps may demand a trade or wait until his contract is up.
