The New York Jets are going all out in their pursuit of free agent linebacker Don'ta Hightower as they to pry him away from the New England Patriots. The latest in the Jets attempt to convince Hightower to leave New England is the use of cupcakes.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets welcomed Dont'a Hightower for an official team visit in New York on Sunday. The team started the pursuit by sending Hightower's mother Jets merchandise before bringing out the big guns later that day.

The Jets reportedly gave Dont'a Hightower a lot of cupcakes for his birthday. Even the screen inside the Jets' training facility had a big "Happy Birthday Dont'a Hightower" on them. If the Jets get to sign the 27-year-old linebacker, he will be the team's best pass-rushing LB since John Abraham, per NFL.com.

It is also noted that Dont'a Hightower meeting the Jets is just a tactic to increase his leverage over the Patriots or other interested teams. According to CBS Sports, he will visit the Pittsburgh Steelers this week.

However, many analysts believe that Dont'a Hightower is expected to re-sign with the Patriots and stay in New England. The Patriots have a more dangerous team after acquiring wide receiver Brandin Cooks from the New Orleans Saints, tight end Dwayne Allen from the Indianapolis Colts and defensive end Kony Ealy from the Carolina Panthers via trade, per Patriots.com.

The Patriots also managed to sign cornerback Stephon Gilmore to a five-year, $65 million deal. They can also trade Malcolm Butler and Jimmy Garoppolo for draft picks and solidify their chances of achieving a perfect season next year.

Dont'a Hightower is better off re-signing with the Patriots wherein he has the chance to be part of history. Nevertheless, the Jets need to hope that they had the best cupcakes in the world because they really need a good linebacker to be completive next season.
