This week, Sony released Firmware Update 4.50 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. There several big changes that include external hard drive support and a boost mode for console PS4 Pro users.
Here are the main features in PS4 system software update 4.50 as given in official PlayStation website. The user can now use a USB 3.0 storage device to install or move an application from console's system storage. There should be an external hard drive with minimum 250 GB capacity and maximum 8 TB capacity.
As written in Kotaku, it took about three minutes to move an 18 GB game from the system drive to the external drive. The game launched and ran normally after this process. In case if someone accidently disconnects the external drive, the system goes through the same process as it would with the internal drive when PS4 is powered off unexpectedly.
Now, joining and creating parties will be easier to access from quick menu. Notifications menu has been redesigned and all notifications will now appear in a single list. The PS4 user can now use device's microphone for voice chat while using Remote Play on a Windows PC, Mac, Xperia smartphone or Xperia tablet.
The user can use screenshots to customize the background of the home screen or function screen, also to post it directly to activities. PS4 users can now post animated GIFs to social applications and activities. Even after creating a party, there will an option to change it to private or public. PlayStation VR will support Blu-ray 3D now.
Here are some new or revised features in PS4 firmware update version 4.50. Now, parent or guardian can create a master account for them and sub-accounts for children. The user can download or upload saved data right from the home screen by choosing Upload/Download Saved Data option in OPTIONS button.
The design of PS4 Remote Play for Xperia has been updated. The PS4 system profile screen cover image will be displayed in PS Messages. The image quality of Cinematic mode on PlayStation VR has been improved.
