The New England Patriots are not done reinforcing their lineup and are actively recruiting capable players in the trade market. Latest news is saying that they have added ex-Buffalo Bills cornerback Stephon Gilmore to augment their defense. Will he help the Patriots improve their defensive line?

The New England Patriots are coming from a great showing last season as they've won the Super Bowl by beating the Atlanta Hawks to be the champion. It is not surprising because they have one of the best offense and defense in the league. Their offense is averaging 27.6 points (3rd) with 386.2 total yards (4th) while their defense is only allowing 15.6 points (1st) and 326.4 total yards (8th) to opponents.

And now, the New England Patriots are injecting another guy to their much-vaunted defense. According to ESPN, the Patriots officially signed ex-Bills CB Stephon Gilmore to a multi-year contract. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed but it was believed that it is a five-year deal as league sources say.

It came to a surprise that the Buffalo Bills is parting ways with Stephon Gilmore, whom they drafted in the 2012 NFL draft. From a shaky performance the past few season, Gilmore elevate his game last season that eventually gave way to him to be voted for the first time in the Pro Bowl. Now, the New England Patriots have the opportunity to use those skills and gave them an added boost on defense.

The arrival of Stephon Gilmore also signifies that free-agent quarterback Logan Ryan will not be coming back to the New England Patriots. Ryan's agent has stated that the 26-year old CB is set to join the Tennessee Titans after being released by the Patriots. With the departure of Ryan, Gilmore will be an ideal replacement for him and could be a perfect partner for Malcolm Butler at corners.

Sports Illustrated further stated that though the New England Patriots are the defending champs there is no stopping them from being a great team and having a chance to defend their title in the coming season. And Stephon Gilmore seems to be a great lock-down defender when his game gets going. A pair of Gilmore and Butler is surely a potent 1-2 combination for the Patriots in the corners.
