Swedish automaker Volvo has a remarkable run in 2016. Its XC90 unit has been named the best SUV by noted car reviewer Motor Trend. Then the stylish S90 sedan becomes a hit in the market.

This year, the Gothenburg-based company is pinning its hopes on the 2018 Volvo XC60 vehicle to sustain the streak. With the Scalable Product Architecture in play, the European organization is making strides by producing its very own automobiles. The entry of the XC90 SUV and the V90 Cross Country wagon signify that Volvo has indeed evolved after parting from Ford in 2008.

On a first take, the XC60 seems to look like a mini XC90. However, Thomas Ingenlath, the auto manufacturer's Senior Vice President for Design, has pointed out that the new small crossover will pursue a different path. The 2018 Volvo XC60 will assume a more outgoing outlook. The drop down hood and a more raked windshield allow the car to institute a sporty view.

What makes the XC60 distinct is its somewhat suggestive frame. Judging from its 112.8-inch wheelbase and 2.4-inch overall length, the automobile is longer. With its 65.3-inch height and 74.9-inch girth, it is considerably lower and wider, respectively, compared to the earlier brand. Since it has bulked up, it is perceived that the forthcoming crossover will be heavier but the presence of lightweight steel elements closely resembles with the XC90's heftiness.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 is available in three variations. The T5 comes with a 2-liter turbo-charged 4-cylinder engine. Next is the T6 with its turbo and supercharged machine. Finally, the T8 provides potential buyers with an electric car option that can travel up to 30 miles in one driving stretch.

The XC60 unit also introduces driving modes for added convenience and adaptability. An Off-Road option lifts up the car's air suspension system. When the Sport selection is chosen, the height is lowered into half. Other modes also include the Comfort and Eco approaches.

In terms of safety precautionary measures, the 2018 Volvo XC60 offers the partly-independent Pilot Assist which will manage the accelerating, braking and steering procedures. However, this option is only function up to the 80mph range. An Oncoming Lane Mitigation component is also in place.
