NFL News: Tom Brady to Get More Help as Patriots Looks to Add Wide Receiver

The New England Patriots are going to be the team to beat heading into the next NFL season after winning their fifth Super Bowl title last month. The latest NFL news has revealed that the Patriots are looking to surround Tom Brady with more talent as they scour the market for a wide receiver.

According to Rich Hill of SB Nation, the NFL news surrounding the Patriots is pointing to the team looking to acquire an additional wide receiver. The team won the Super Bowl without Rob Gronkowski but they are going to be scary if they can find another player on offense.

Julian Edelman has a year left on his deal, Chris Hogan has improved a lot and Michael Mitchell is still under development while James White and Dion Lewis are the Patriots' two best running backs. One possible reason why Bill Belichick wants to add a wide receiver is to have more insurance just in case Gronk or Edelman goes down with an injury.

The latest player the Patriots want to pair with Tom Brady is Brandin Cooks of the New Orleans Saints. Josh Katzenstein of NOLA.com reported that New England offered their 2017 first-round pick in exchange for Cooks.

Cooks is rumored to be unhappy in New Orleans because of his role and he is even being compared to former Patriots WR Deion Branch, who played with Tom Brady from 2002 to 2005. Cooks is only 23 years old but he was the best receiver for the Saints despite being underutilized.

Other players linked with the Patriots in the past year include DeAndre Hopkins of the Houston Texans. Belichick tried acquiring Hopkins last season to pair him with Tom Brady but Texans view the 24-year-old WR as a building block.

Brandon Marshall and the Patriots have mutual interest while the team can also re-sign Michael Floyd. However, CBS Boston noted that the Patriots are only interested in bringing back Floyd if it's a "budget deal". It should also be noted that Floyd is expected to serve 24 days in jail due to his DUI arrest last year.
