Last month, the possibility of the mega fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor caused quite the media stir. The buzz has quieted down since, with UFC president Dana White saying that he believes McGregor’s next fight would be in the UFC. Recently, Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh spoke up on he wants his fighter to face inside the Octagon next.
Speaking to Submission Radio, John Kavanagh admitted that while he doesn’t know exactly what is going on in the negotiations for the potential Floyd Mayweather fight, he said that “it seems like it’s coming.” What he did know for certain is who he would like Conor McGregor to fight in the UFC: Nate Diaz or Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“I’ve said it before – the Nate [Diaz] rematch interests me a lot because it’s 1-1 and how the styles match up,” John Kavanagh said, leaning towards a trilogy between the Stockton native and Conor McGregor – a fight that would most certainly rake in a lot of money. “Almost on par with that, not much difference, will be the winner of Khabib [Nurmagomedov] and [Tony] Ferguson this weekend.”
Nate Diaz has kept himself out of the spotlight since losing the rematch against Conor McGregor, insisting that he will only fight the Irishman. Khabib Nurmagomedov, for his part, has long called out the McGregor and has consistently spoken ill of the UFC lightweight champion. Should Nurmagomedov pass his toughest test yet against Tony Ferguson at UFC 209, it would appear that a fight with Conor McGregor would not be too far way.
Dana White recently told TMZ that he believes that Conor McGregor’s next fight will be in MMA, against the winner of Saturday’s main event at UFC 209. Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, two of the world’s best MMA fighters, will be fighting for the interim lightweight title.
