The UFC recently announced a potentially massive fight between returning Georges St-Pierre and middleweight champion Michael Bisping. Recently, cameras caught up with UFC president Dana White hoping for a similarly huge announcement concerning the company’s biggest superstar Conor McGregor. White obliged – somewhat – saying that he believes McGregor’s next fight will be in the UFC against the winner of the UFC 209 co-main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.

Dana White was initially pressed by TMZ for comment on the potential Floyd Mayweather – Conor McGregor fight, but was quick to shoot it down. “I don’t know where we’re at – we’re nowhere with it,” White said, before saying that he believes McGregor’s next fight will be in mixed martial arts against the Khabib Nurmagomedov – Tony Ferguson interim lightweight title fight at UFC 209 this Saturday.

After winning the UFC lightweight title to become the company’s first simultaneous two-division champion at UFC 205, Conor McGregor has been vague about future with the organization. He has previously said that he wants a stake in the company, before setting his sights firmly on the potential mega fight against Floyd Mayweather. And while various reports have seen both sides flip-flop from Mayweather saying they were getting really close to getting a deal done, to McGregor saying that the undefeated boxer didn’t show his face when he flew to Las Vegas, it remains to be seen if the fight is a real possibility at all.

Conor McGregor leapfrogged two tough contenders at lightweight on his way to knocking out Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt. And on Wednesday, McGregor’s potential opponent, Khabib Nurmagomedov, reminded everyone how he feels about the lightweight champion, calling the Irishman’s fight against Alvarez “fake” and saying that his “uncle” Dana White gave him the belt as a “gift,” Fox Sports reported.

But before Khabib Nurmagomedov can keep thinking about Conor McGregor, he faces an extremely tough fight against the versatile Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 on Saturday. The interim lightweight title fight will precede the welterweight championship rematch between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson.
