NBA News: Jose Calderon Atlanta Hawks Deal Possible After Warriors Waive The Spanish Point Guard

Jose Calderon is still in search for a new team as his stint with the Golden State Warriors ended in an hour The Dubs decided to immediately waive the Spanish point guard after honoring its word that it will sign him, opening the possibility of an Atlanta Hawks Jose Calderon deal.

The Golden State Warriors had to fill in its forward spot after the recent Kevin Durant injury. This resulted in the decision that the Dubs will take Matt Barnes instead of Jose Calderon to update its roster. The GSW, however, still honored its word to sign Calderon but waived the Spanish point guard an hour after.

Jose Calderon may join the Atlanta Hawks, as the team is reportedly looking for a true point guard to add to its current roster. According to AJC, Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said that the 15th spot on the Hawks' roster is reserved for a "stone-cold point guard."

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, sources within the league revealed that Jose Calderon is the prime candidate to take the backup point guard role of the Atlanta Hawks. If ever the Jose Calderon Atlanta Hawks deal will push through, the Spanish point guard will be coming off the bench behind current Hawks starting point guard Dennis Shroder and primary backup Malcolm Delaney.

Jose Calderon may, however, snag the backup role from Delany if he proves that he can still facilitate an offense. Shroder, though an able passer, favors driving to the basket more and dishing on the last minute if a shot is not possible than facilitating a well drawn offensive scheme.

The Spanish point guard, on the other hand, knows how to pace an offense and look for scoring options. This opens the opportunity for the Hawks to play Jose Calderon alongside Dennis Shroder to maximize Shroder's speed by cutting to the basket and Calderon's passing skills.

The Atlanta Hawks Jose Calderon deal is expected to go down in the coming days. Calderon must first clear waivers to make the deal happen.
