Ben Affleck left the director's seat for the upcoming "Batman" solo movie as he intends to focus on the role itself instead of spending time as both the lead character and director. However, the film is experiencing setback as the director's seat remains empty as negotiations with prospects like Matt Reeves are unsuccessful.

The "Planet of the Apes" director didn't go on with the negotiations to lead the "Batman" cast for the reboot of the Dark Knight's film. The supposed-to-be director Ben Affleck left the seat as he believed that being Batman requires more focus since the character is well-loved by many comic fans around the world, Variety reported.

In a statement released on January 30, Ben Affleck said that "performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance." He believes that he can't do both jobs at a level it requires. He, therefore, needs to find a director that could collaborate with him for the big film franchise. Batman is a personal favorite of millions of superhero enthusiasts.

The script was already finished and was co-written by Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns, polished by Chris Terrio. The "Batman" movie is just another Warner Bros.-DC Entertainment joint project that experienced a loss of director, second to "The Flash" which lost its director twice and still having a vacant chair up-to-date.

Matt Reeves could have been the best choice for the role. Though the initial negotiations didn't become successful, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment is still trying to re-negotiate with the director. His success for "Planet of the Apes," "Cloverfield" and "Let Me In" among others proves that he is the best candidate for the vacant chair of "Batman." Even Ben Affleck seem to have good words for the director.

Others interested in directing "Batman" are "Don't Breathe" director Fede Alvarez and Ridley Scott. However, Warner Bros. is still persistent in trying to win Matt Reeves for the directing chair, Slashfilm reported. So far, Ben Affleck hasn't expressed any intent on taking back the director's position for the movie.
