Sports fans can’t seem to get through two days without reading something about the potential super fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor. And recently, legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach added, even more, fuel to the fire, saying that Floyd Mayweather told him to train the UFC lightweight champion “because I am going to fight him.”

As reported by MMA Mania, Floyd Mayweather visited Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles to tell him that if Conor McGregor asks for his services, he should take the opportunity. “He said, ‘If he reaches out and wants you to train him, I would take that job because I am going to fight him and we can all make a lot of money,” Roach said during the latest edition of “MMA Hour.”

Freddie Roach added that while nothing has yet to be finalized, it appears that the fight is heading towards becoming a reality. Roach pointed out that with the new UFC ownership, the sport of mixed martial arts could finally crossover to the world of boxing. Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor have been firing verbal jabs at each other for the better part of the past year, with the Irishman going as far as claiming that his next fight would be in a boxing ring.

Freddie Roach also weighed in on what he thinks the outcome would be should the fight ever happen. “It would take a long time for Conor [McGregor] to get ready for a pure boxing match, but one punch can change anything, so I am not going to count him out completely,” the multiple-time trainer of the year said. As noted by Bleacher Report, Freddie Roach has experience with training mixed martial arts fighters, having worked with Georges St-Pierre and Andrei Arlovski in the past.

Recently, TMZ Sports caught up with Conor McGregor, where called Floyd Mayweather a “b----“ and said that the undefeated boxer “didn’t show his face” during the UFC superstar’s recent visit to Las Vegas. Las Vegas is Mayweather’s adopted hometown.
