The NFL offseason is underway with many teams looking for a quarterback and others just want to improve their current roster by making trades. Here is the latest NFL rumor roundup that includes team executives' preference of AJ McCarron over Jimmy Garoppolo, update on a Dolphins-Jaguars deal and more.

NFL team execs like McCarron than Garoppolo

The first topic of today's NFL rumor roundup is about two young backup quarterbacks. According to Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com, multiple NFL executives prefer McCarron over the Bengals over Garroppolo of the Patriots.

McCarron and Garoppolo are two backup QBs with potential and they can make a difference if given the chance to start. The Bengals are expected to dangle McCarron this offseason since the 26-year-old QB has expressed his interest in being a starter and he can't do it with Andy Dalton blocking his way.

On the other hand, the Patriots are not in a hurry to trade Garoppolo and they are going to wait for the best offer for him. Nevertheless, executives are siding with McCarron as the good target for teams looking for a quarterback.

"If I had to choose one, I would go after McCarron. Ideally, you get him for a late second- or early third-round pick. Then, if it doesn't work out, you draft a QB in 2018," one executive said.

Dolphins, Jaguars close to finalizing trade

The Dolphins and Jaguars are close to finalizing a one-on-one trade that will send left tackle Branden Albert to Jacksonville while tight end Julius Thomas goes to Miami, per Omar Kelly of The Sun-Sentinel. Both players have to pass a medical first before the deal goes through on March 9 when the league year starts on March 9.

Kelly pointed out that Dolphins were going to release Albert to clear $7.2 million in cap space but the Jaguars were very interested in him. As for Thomas, he is signed until the 2018 season and he could provide some additional offense to the team.

Eagles not releasing Connor Barwin but trade is possible

According to Mark Eckel of NJ Advance Media, the Eagles will have suitors for their veteran linebacker and defensive end. Barwin was set to be released by Philly but three teams emerge as possible destinations for him via trade.

Eckel names the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens as teams interested in Barwin. The 30-year-old has two more years on his deal with the Eagles saving $7.75 million if they trade or release him.
