During the TNT segment before the NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans, Inside the NBA anchor Ernie Johnson boldly predicted that 55-year-old All-Star Game scoring would be broken later in the day. At the end of the 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend, New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis did just that, scoring 52 points to lead the West to a 192-182 victory over the East.

As noted by Ball Don’t Lie, Anthony Davis, who served as the host for most of the week, broke Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 42 points by going 26 of 29 from the field en route to a whopping 52 points to go along with 10 rebounds. The record-breaking performance was more than enough to give Anthony Davis All-Star Game MVP honors. Chamberlain accomplished the previous record during the 1962 NBA All-Star Game.

Chamberlain’s record was almost broken twice in the same game as Anthony Davis’ West All-Star teammate Russell Westbrook finished with 41 points, duplicating his output from two years ago. The high scoring affair, inundated with highlights was a welcome development following a forgettable Slam Dunk Contest on All-Star Saturday.

Meanwhile, Anthony Davis’ All-Star MVP and the recently concluded hosting of the NBA All-Star Game was not the end of New Orleans’ win streak as Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported that the Sacramento Kings have agreed to trade center DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans. According to the report, the blockbuster trade would send guards Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans and Langston Galloway, as well as 2017 first and second round picks to the Kings in exchange for the ultra-talented DeMarcus Cousins and veteran forward Omri Casspi.

According to Wojnarowski, the Sacramento Kings previously promised DeMarcus Cousins that he would not be traded before the NBA trade deadline. Should the deal be made official, it would pair two of the league’s best big men, adding the versatile skills of DeMarcus Cousins to Anthony Davis’ All-World talents.
