Toyota's latest hybrid model, the 2017 Prius Prime, promises great features than the standard Prius liftback. It is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

The Prius Prime's estimated range is 615 miles on the hybrid system and 25 miles in electric mode, for a total of 640 miles. It contributes to miles per gallon gasoline equivalent of 133.

Toyota's Product Specialist Sean Cina said that it can go up to 84 miles per hour in electric vehicle mode. He also pointed out the Prime's features, such as quad-beam LED headlamps and the dual-wave rear glass design which lowers air resistance.

The Prius Prime's plug-in hybrid system uses a dual-motor drivetrain. It also adds a one-way clutch that engages both the generator and electric motor for vehicle movement.

The Prime's generator is tapped as a second motor in addition to its normal regenerative and starting duties. So when the car is in electric mode, it has two electric motors turning the wheels, leading to greater performance.

As expressed in CNET, the Prius Prime has an 8.8kWh lithium-ion battery and a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that contributes to a combined net output of 121 horsepower.

In the Prius Prime, there are three drive modes - Normal, Eco and Power, but it also features hybrid, electric and electric auto modes.

In hybrid mode, power draws from the gas engine and battery as needed. Switch to the electric mode for pure electric power and electric auto mode to let the vehicle decide what is most efficient.

There is two level of charging the car: Level 1 is of 120V which takes about five and a half hours with a standard household outlet and Level 2 is of 240V which takes about two hours and 10 minutes with a charging stations.

The Prius Prime's intelligence extends into its charge cycles, which can be set through the Prius Prime App. The climate control system can operate without the engine running.

The Prius Prime comes in three grades - Plus, Premium and Advanced. The Plus comes with heated fabric seats, quad LED headlights and a 7-inch display.

The Premium comes with synthetic leather seats, a smart charging cable lock, and an 11.6-inch HD display, and the Advance comes with a heads-up display includes a speedometer and shows the battery charge.

As stated in the official site of Toyota, The Prime Plus carries a starting MSRP of $27100. The Premium goes for $28800, and the advance is $33300.

This new Prius is a total package that promises to deliver exceptional value when it arrives at dealerships in late fall, is definitely ready for prime time.
