The National Basketball Coaching Association (NBCA) is very proud to announce the initiation of the Michael H. Goldberg NBCA Coach of the Year Award. This Award will be an annual award given to the best and most successful HeadCoach in the NBA.

It will be the only award chosen entirely by the NBA coaches. From now on, every season Head Coaches representing all 30 NBA teams will select the winner of this award, the winner of the 2017 Michael H. Goldberg NBCA Coach of the Year Award will be announced after the conclusion of 2016-17 NBA season.

This award will symbolise dedication and hardwork of the NBA Head Coaches. This award will be presented to a coach who has helped guide his players or her players to a higher level of performance on-the-court and showed outstanding service and dedication to the community off-the-court as well.

The award is named after an esteemed Michael H. Goldberg, a long time Executive Director of the National Basketball Association (a group that includes all Head and Assistant Coaches in NBA and its Alumni group).

In the 1980, six years after the NBCA was found, Goldberg was the first Executive Director. Building upon the existence found by the NBCA, he guided the Association through the years of greatest growth in Basketball. He helped in gaining significant benefits for the coaches, including billions of dollars in increased retirement funds and disability insurance.

NBCA President Coach Rick Carlisle said that this award honors the life of a great leader, tireless foot soldier for the best interest of coaches and the NBA, and most importantly a trusted friend. He further said that The Michael H. Goldberg NBCA Coach of the Year Award will have special meaning because of its namesake and the fact that it is voted on by all Head Coaches.

The Michael H. Goldberg NBCA Coach of the Year award will be presented to a Head Coach that exemplifies the same high quality of integrity and excellence that Michael H. Goldberg exhibited during his highly respected and fabulous career.
