Microsoft's announced an upcoming hardware refresh of Xbox One codenamed "Project Scorpio" in the E3 2016 press conference. Microsoft's most powerful console is expected to be unveiled in E3 2017, the biggest gaming event of the year and few reports claims that it is a perfect avenue for a powerful gaming console.

According to Mobile and Apps, it is highly expected that the unveiling of Microsoft's Project Scorpio will be in E3 2017 and the expectations are based on Microsoft gaming network's director of Programming Major Nelson Tweets.

As per the announcement by Microsoft in the E3, 2016 event, Project Scorpio will be a high-end model with upgraded hardware that would make it the "most powerful console ever." It will feature an eight-core AMD APU with 320 gigabytes per second of memory bandwidth, a 3-fold increase and 6 teraflops of graphical computing performance, a 4-fold increase. The hardware is meant to support 4K gameplay, as well as virtual reality.

Xbox division head Phil Spencer tweeted that Xbox will present something new in E3 2017. Spencer directly quote that there are goodies for Xbox costumers in June and then padded the statement that Microsoft is currently doing is not necessarily a retaliation to rivals Sony or Nintendo.

According to Halo boss Frank O'Connor who posted on the NeoGAF forums (via Game Rant) in response to fans who were asking about the console's abilities. O'Connor stated that the console is "beefier" than what he had expected.

"Haha, although I probably 'know' [what Project Scorpio's specs are] in that I might have seen it in a slide or something, it's literally not something I have time to think about now and I actually couldn't remember whatever specs I've been exposed to even if I was tortured," he said.

Project Scorpio is a competitor to PlayStation 4 Pro, a hardware update of PlayStation 4 released in late-2016 that similarly focuses on 4K gaming and improved virtual reality performance.
