As he tries to turn his NFL career around under center for the Browns, Robert Griffin III is going through some personal turmoil.

Griffin was named the starting quarterback for Cleveland on Aug. 8 as he looks to resurrect a career that seemed to reach a grisly end in Washington, D.C.

As he looks to turn things around in his professional life, Griffin has some issues in his personal life. The quarterback has been separated from his wife, Rebecca Liddicoat, for the past several months and the couple is headed toward a divorce, according to Cleveland.com.

The two tied the knot over three years ago on July 6, 2013, and had their daughter, Reese Ann Griffin, together in May 2015. The couple met in 2009 and got engaged in 2010.

As Griffin goes through these struggles in his personal life, he is trying to be a force on the field in order to solve the Browns' quarterback issues. He told his teammates and coaches of the impending split, and the website reports that they've been very supportive of him.

The 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year took his place under center when the Browns battled the Packers last Friday, a game they lost 17-11. Griffin was 4-for-8 for 67 yards and threw an interception, while he didn't connect for a touchdown.

Though the quarterback has been going through issues and is having a hard time, his teammates have praised his leadership.

"He's a natural leader and that's what you need from an intangibles standpoint,'' Browns offensive tackle Joe Thomas said recently via Cleveland.com. "Everyone knows how talented he is as an athlete and throwing the ball and the one thing that maybe guys didn't know about that have been really impressed with him so far is his work ethic, his intelligence, the way he prepares and he studies just like the great quarterbacks in the game right now.''

After making a splash in his rookie season, injuries have plagued Griffin to the point where his career eventually bottomed out with the Redskins.

Griffin, 26, has completed 63.9 percent of his passes in his NFL career through three seasons and 37 games (35 starts) and has thrown for 8,097 yards with 40 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.
