CM Punk has had a long journey to his UFC debut, but he's less than a month away from his first foray into the Octagon.

The former WWE Champion walked out on the wrestling promotion in January 2014 and signed with the UFC that December, but he's yet to have his first fight. The "Best in the World" suffered many set-backs en route to his debut fight, most recently a back injury, but he's set to face Mickey Gall on Sept. 10 in Cleveland.

Punk's road to his first UFC fight has been chornicled by a film crew for the documentary "Evolution of Punk," which airs part one of four on Monday night. Each subsequent episode will air over the next four Mondays leading up to UFC 203 when he takes on Gall.

Gall is 2-0 in his UFC career and has plenty of experience, but Punk recently said he believes he matches up well with his upcoming opponent in every other category.

"Body weight, height, reach, everything like [that], I think we're almost identical. Experience goes to him," Punk said on the 'UFC Unfiltered' podcast, according to WrestlingInc. "He [has] fought in the Octagon and other places and I haven't."

Punk will appear on the documentary along with his wife, former WWE Diva AJ Lee, who left the company over a year after him due to a defamation lawsuit being brought against him from WWE doctor Chris Amann. The lawsuit stems from comments Punk made about the doctor on his friend Colt Cabana's podcast on a Thanksgiving episode in 2015.

As for his opponent, Punk hasn't been able to see much of Gall because he hasn't fought in a while due to waiting for the fight.

"He's a nice guy," Punk said on the podcast. "I talked to him very briefly at his debut and I felt bad about that setback and he [has] been kind of sitting on the sidelines, but here we are now. I think he's a tough kid, but also his fights have been pretty short. You don't really get to see all of his skills."
