Bill Goldberg is headed to "The Biggest Event of the Summer."

Ever since the former WCW and WWE Heavyweight Champion signed on with the company to take part in WWE 2K17, there has been a lot of buzz about a potential return to the squared circle.

While Goldberg has been open to a return to the ring, it's unlikely he'll be doing so anytime soon. However, Goldberg is slated to be in New York City this weekend as the WWE presents SummerSlam live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn this Sunday, according to PWInsider.

While this news is sure to generate buzz, the most likely scenario for Goldberg's involvement in the big weekend pertains to the WWE 2K17 video game and the promotion behind it. The game is set to be released on Oct. 11.

The former WWE star has only competed at SummerSlam once in his illustrious career and it came back in 2003. Goldberg, who was formerly 173-0 to start his WCW career, was involved in an Elimination Chamber match that saw Triple H retain his World Heavyweight Championship in a bout that also included Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho.

Goldberg, 49, has made comebacks to the ring before, but he hasn't appeared in the squared circle in the WWE since 2004. The last time Goldberg was seen in a WWE ring, he faced Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX in March 2004 at Madison Square Garden. The WWE Universe knew both combatants were leaving after the marquee show and turned on them, railing against the match and only cheering for special referee "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

A return to the ring would likely be saved for something huge like WrestleMania or SummerSlam down the line and would likely have a lot of hype. Goldberg has said he is open to a return, but his heart isn't set on it.

"Hey man, I think it's widely known at this stage that I am willing to put past differences aside and make some money and do the right thing for the fans," Goldberg told 411 Mania last month.. "If it happens, it happens. It's all good. If it doesn't, I truly am not going to miss a beat of my life. I am busy right now with my family, let alone all my other projects. It's an opportunity if it presents itself. Am I holding my breath? If I am, I must be pretty damn good because that means I've been holding it for the last 12 years, which I haven't."
