New York Knicks Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Satisfied With Gold Medals If NBA Championship Eludes Him [VIDEO]

Carmelo Anthony may never win the NBA championship that eludes him, but at least he has two Olympic gold medals so far.

The Knicks superstar is currently taking part in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as he looks to become the first U.S. men's basketball player to win three gold medals.

Team USA is 3-0 and leads the Group A standings with six points as it awaits its preliminary match with Serbia on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.

While Anthony has had plenty of success on the Olympics stage, he has thus far failed to capture an NBA title. The nine-time NBA All-Star said he's happy with his career even if he never holds up the biggest trophy in his sport.

"Most athletes don't have an opportunity to say that they won a gold medal, better yet three gold medals," Anthony said, according to ESPN. "I would be very happy walking away from the game knowing that I've given the game everything I have, knowing I played on a high level at every level: high school, college, won [a championship at Syracuse] in college and possibly three gold medals."

The Knicks haven't won a championship since 1973 and haven't appeared in the NBA Finals since a 1999 loss to the Spurs in five games.

New York is on a three-season playoff drought, but made wholesale changes this offseason that leaves it optimistic for 2016. The Knicks acquired Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose in trades with the Bulls this offseason, while they added Courtney Lee in free agency and made plenty of moves to shore up their bench.

Anthony arrived in New York when the Nuggets traded him midway through the 2010-11 season. Thus far, the Knicks have made the playoffs three times in his tenure, losing in the first round to the Celtics (4-0, 2011), the first round to the Heat (4-1, 2012) and the second round to the Pacers (4-2, 2013).

Anthony, 32, averaged 21.8 points per game in 2015-16 as the Knicks finished 32-50 and 13th in the Eastern Conference.
