Johnny Manziel vowed to remain sober starting July 1. Johnny Manziel lied.
The former Heisman Trophy winner was cut by the Browns back in March amid his wayward, party boy ways. Since getting released by Cleveland, the partying hasn't stopped for the former quarterback.
Manziel, however, vowed that he'd clean himself up to pursue an NFL return starting July 1, but he was spotted out drinking all weekend ... again.
The former Browns signal caller was suspended by the NFL on June 30 and while his vow to bounce back from his own issues appears empty, a friend of his acknowledged he hit "rock bottom," but is sincere about sobering up.
"He knows he's hit rock bottom and he's giving himself a year to get sober and get ready for football. He wants to play again," a friend of Manziel's told Page Six. "He really wants to turn things around and make people proud of him again. It's not going to end this way. He really wants to make that effort. He knows what he's gifted with ... The spotlight got to him."
Manziel was seen partying this weekend at clubs in downtown New York City, while he also attended Drake's concert at Madison Square Garden on Saturday and was seen drinking again.
"He was not that messy, but drinking and dancing," a source told the publication about his appearance at the concert. He was then seen drinking again when he went out to dinner on Sunday.
"He doesn't want to sit at home in his hotel room," the source said. "He enjoys seeing his friends. Some of them are in nightlife and entertainment."
Manziel, 23, has had many issues staying away from the party scene and was also recently indicted by a Dallas jury for a domestic incident with his ex-girlfriend, model Colleen Crowley, in which he allegedly hit her so hard that she lost the hearing in her left ear temporarily.
The former quarterback was also recently sued for allegedly causing $32,000 worth of damage to a home he and his party friends rented for a two-day alcohol and drug-fueled binge in Los Angeles. On top of his incidents, Manziel has been involved in at least three vehicular accidents as well this offseason.
Despite his myriad issues -- which include getting dropped by two agents this offseason -- Manziel adamant that he plans on staying sober to pursue a return to the NFL -- even if he can't get out of his own way.
