For Michael Phelps and the U.S. men's swim team, Sunday was a gold rush.

Phelps, the most-decorated Olympian of all-time, added to his list of accolades and stockpile of gold medals when the U.S. won the 400 freestyle relay. It marked Phelps' record 23rd Olympic medal of all-time and his 19th gold.

This medal was a little bit different for Phelps too as he knew his son Boomer, who is only 3-months-old and unlikely to remember this feat, saw him capture the gold back at home.

The 31-year-old Phelps carried the team to victory by staking them to a huge lead in the freestyle. While Phelps was cool, calm and collected on the podium having won his 19th gold medal, some of his teammates tasted gold for the first time and were overcome with emotion.

Phelps, who plans to call it a career after the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, reflected on this performance being his final relay.

"It felt good to get, after my last 400 free relay of my career, this thing around my neck," Phelps said about the medal, according to USA Today. "It feels good to get it back."

Phelps' performance didn't go unnoticed by his teammates as fellow veteran Nathan Adrian heaped praise on his Olympic teammate..

"He proved that he belonged there," Adrian said. "He obviously proved that he definitely belonged there. He's the first to say that if he wasn't in a place to step up and throw an amazing leg down, he would be the first to step down. He's 100 percent a team player."

Phelps reacted to winning his 19th gold medal in front of his family on social media:
