Team USA begins its quest for an unbelievable sixth straight Olympic gold medal when it takes on Senegal in Group B, Round 1 action Sunday as part of the Rio Summer Olympic Games in Brazil.

This magical run began back in 1996 when Team USA took home the gold in Atlanta. From there, they did the same in 2000 (Sydney), 2004 (Athens), 2008 (Bejin) and 2012 (London). The United States has placed gold in seven of the last eight Olympics.

The lone exception to that feat was in 1992 when the Unified Team took home the gold in Barcelona. That year, Team USA settled for the bronze. The Americans also took home gold in the previous two Summer Games, ending the Soviet Union's two-year streak with its first gold medal in 1984 (Moscow) and replicating the feat in 1988 (Seoul).

Off the court, Team USA star WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne made waves coming into the game when she came out as a lesbian and introduced the world to her partner in an article she was being interviewed for.

"It was just one of those articles where they came into my home, spent a couple days with me, and [fiancee] Amanda [Clifton] is a huge part of my life," Delle Donne, a Chicago Sky star, told reporters in Rio, according to ESPNW. "So to leave her out wouldn't have made any sense. It's not a coming out article or anything. I've been with her for a very long time now, and people who are close to me know that, and that's that."

Team USA's game Sunday is part of a full slate of men's and women's contests throughout the Olympics. The full schedule -- which includes where all seven games can be live streamed -- can be viewed here.
