Regardless of his turmoil in the Octagon, Brock Lesnar is set to return to the squared circle to headline one of the biggest events of the year.
"The Beast" is set to go head-to-head with Randy Orton at SummerSlam on Aug. 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Lesnar is under fire in the UFC realm after reportedly failing an anti-doping test, but the WWE isn't set to punish him since he hasn't wrestled for them since WrestleMania 32 in April.
A company spokesman recently opened up about the lack of discipline for Lesnar after the controversy.
"WWE's talent wellness program does not apply to part-time performers such as Brock Lesnar," the person told TMZ Sports.
That's an interesting and dangerous statement from the spokesperson as it paints the WWE in a bad light. The company's wellness policy should apply to everyone if the company wants a level playing field between what its talents can and can't get away with.
Lesnar reportedly is facing potential discipline from the UFC for failing an anti-doping test which he took prior to his return fight against Mark Hunt on July 9, the results of which didn't come until after the bout. Lesnar defeated Hunt at UFC 200 in Las Vegas, but he's under a lot of scrutiny now.
The WWE released a brief statement when the news broke.
"Brock Lesnar has not performed for WWE since WrestleMania and is not scheduled to return until Sunday, Aug. 21," the company said.
While it has no plans to abort Lesnar's big match with Orton, the WWE reportedly did change its ideas for last week's WWE Draft. "The Beast" was rumored to go No. 1 overall to "Monday Night RAW," but instead Seth Rollins was picked. Lesnar ended up being a top-five pick for the flagship show.
Reports have surfaced that Lesnar tested positive for estrogen blocker Clomiphene, which is common among bodybuilders. The WWE recently suspended three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns for violating its wellness policy, reportedly for the use of Adderall.
Despite the negative attention, Lesnar is set to face Orton at SummerSlam on Aug. 21.
