Houston Rockets Rumors: Dwight Howard Has One Less Distraction In Personal Life As He Prepares For Warriors In Playoffs [PHOTO, VIDEO]

As Dwight Howard and the Rockets prepare for a tough first-round matchup with the record-setting Warriors in the NBA playoffs, at least he has one less thing to worry about.

The 6-foot-11 center has had a tumultuous past with his ex-girlfriend, former Magic dancer Royce Reed, but it seems the two have been able to mend their broken relationship to the point of being civil with one another. And it seems it's all for their 8-year-old son, Braylon.

Family members from both sides convinced the NBA star and the "Basketball Wives" actress to put their differences aside for the benefit of their son, according to TMZ Sports.

"They decided to stop hating each other and made a promise to their son they would get along," a source told the site.

Howard and Reed have been at each other's throats for eight years now and their time together has been one crazy roller coaster ride. The Rockets center sued Reed for over $550 million in the past, claiming she disparaged him several times on social media and through her appearances on "Basketball Wives."

Reed has also called the cops on her ex multiple times, even accusing him of abusing their child. Howard later admitted to beating his child with a belt, but said he didn't realize how wrong it was. Reed gave birth to Braylon in November 2007, and she and Howard have been on bad terms for the majority of his life.

The two were able to eventually communicate and be friendly toward one another for Braylon's sake. Reed even posted an Instagram "Flipagram" of a montage of the three of them with the song "We Are Family" playing in the background.

Howard has a lot on his plate as the Rockets (41-41) prepare to open their series Saturday against Steph Curry and the Warriors. Golden State won an NBA-record 73 games this season and is a favorite to win the NBA championship.

Howard, 30, averaged 13.7 points and 11.8 rebounds for Houston this season.
