Massachusetts State Police have subpoenaed Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey to testify in the Aaron Hernandez murder trial, according to SI.com.
Pouncey was served less than an hour after the New England Patriots knocked off the Dolphins 27-17 at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. A source told SI the subpoena is focussed on Hernandez's allege involvement in an interstate gun trafficking ring spanning multiple states, including Massachusetts, New York and Florida.
The website adds Hernandez and Pouncey are close friends and were once teammates at the University of Florida, when Pouncey and his twin brother, Maurkice, now a Steelers center, were both roommates with Hernandez.
According to SI, the extent of Pouncey's involvement is unknown, but investigators are focusing on multiple incidents involving both he and Hernandez.
Hernandez, 23, remains jailed without bail in the June 17 killing of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, whose bullet-riddled body was found less than a mile from Hernandez's North Attleborough mansion. Police have since speculated Lloyd may have been killed because of his knowledge about Hernandez's involvement in an assortment of other violent crimes.
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and five gun related charges. The gun charges stem from weapons police seized along with at least three different types of ammunition -- .22-caliber bullets, 7.62-mm. rounds and 45-caliber bullets -- from a 'flop house" linked to Hernandez in nearby Franklin, Mass.
