The NFL season is finally over. Now, it's time for 2016 hopefuls to look at their rosters and identify the dead weight.
In Philadelphia, that starts with Mark Sanchez.
Jeffrey Lurie As Much To Blame As Chip Kelly For 2015
Below are three players the Eagles should sever ties with to succeed next season.
Darren Sproles
Darren Sproles enjoyed playing for Chip Kelly, but that won't be the same under Doug Pederson.
The problem Sproles faces next season isn't his Pro Bowl-level talent, it's his contract. Of the three RBs in Philadelphia -- which also include Ryan Matthews and DeMarco Murray -- Sproles' contract is the most expendable.
For Mathews, $3 million of his $4 million cap is in dead money. The Eagles still owe Murray guaranteed money, bringing his 2016 dead cap to $13 million, $5 million more than his $8 million cap hit. As for Sproles, the Eagles can save $3.5 million simply by releasing.
It's simple math.
Nolan Carroll
Nolan Carroll didn't do himself any favors when his missed the latter part of the season with a broken ankle. In his place, Walter Thurmond emerged as a priority in the secondary.
With Carroll entering his free agency, his services will cost more than the $2.9 million cap hit he carried last season. There's no need to shell out additional money with Thurmond already in place.
Mark Sanchez
Now that Chip Kelly was fired, can Philadelphia stop pretending that Mark Sanchez is an NFL QB?
The 29-year-old finished 0-2 as a starter in 2015, throwing for four TDs and four INTs. He's scheduled to make $5.5 million in 2016, but the Eagles can save $3.5 million by releasing and all of it by trading him.
They managed to find a trade partner for Matt Barkley off all people, so it shouldn't prove to be that difficult.

Tackling is a good skill to have when Mark Sanchez is your QB. Great job, @RileyCooper_14. pic.twitter.com/qnJrfXM819
