Jets Fan Punches Woman In The Head [VIDEO]: Fight Breaks Out After Jets Defeat New England Patriots

After the New York Jets and New England Patriots duked it out on the field Sunday afternoon, the fight was taken off the field as an altercation between fans erupted into fisticuffs as fans were emptying out of MetLife Stadium following the Jets 30-27 overtime victory over their AFC East rivals. The fight that ensued appeared to be between a male Jets fan and some Patriots fans, and ultimately resulted in the male fan punching a woman in the head.

Towards the end of the video, which a witness posted on YouTube, the man, wearing a Wayne Chrebet jersey, decks the woman in the head after an argument. Other people were involved in the altercation, but things ended shortly after that as the male was pulled away.

ABC News reports that the Jets released a statement following the incident:

"We are aware of the situation, and we do not tolerate that behavior. Parties involved were detained, and this matter is now in the hands of the New Jersey State Police," the statement read, according to ABC News.

According to multiple reports, New Jersey State Police have said the incident is still under investigation.

The New York Post reports that a commenter on Deadspin, the site that first posted the video, said that the fight broke out due to the male fan rooting for the Jets and the female fan supporting the Patriots.

"The whole thing was shameful it's a football game and you don't hit a girl or call her a bi---," the commenter said per the New York Post.

The event was a gloomy ending to an otherwise exciting day at MetLife Stadium. After the Patriots nodded the game at 27-27 to force overtime, the Jets were able to withstand New England's drive to open up overtime and followed it up with a promising series of their own. It appeared the game was in jeopardy for New York when kicker Nick Folk missed a 56-yard field goal attempt, but a flag on New England defensive tackle Chris Jones for pushing a teammate towards the Jets while trying to

The Jets took that chance and ran with it as the play set up another field goal attempt, this time from 42-yards out, and Folk nailed the field goal to give the Jets (4-3) their first victory over New England (5-2) since 2010.
