Browns owner Jimmy Haslam does not believe the relationship between the Browns and troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel is irreparably broken, and that new coach Hue Jackson will try to talk with the former first-round pick before discarding him.

One top NFL personnel executive thinks that would be nuts, however, with a prospect like North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz available at No. 2.

Cowboys Interest In RGIII, Johnny Football Waning

"If the Browns take Carson Wentz at No. 2 they'd be set for 15 years,'' the exec told Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. "He's the best quarterback in the draft. If I were picking at No. 2, I'd take him. It will solve all of their problems and they'd get that team turned around.''

Wentz has ideal size (6’5, 223 pounds), NFL-caliber arm strength, and most importantly, played in a pro-style offense at North Dakota State. The knocks are his level of competition, although enough FCS players have succeeded in the NFL for the Browns to deal with it, and his statistics aren’t eye-popping.

Manziel's Constant Partying, Breakup With Girlfriend Signs Of A Meltdown

Wentz has always been accurate, and completed 62 percent of his passes in 2015, but he threw just 17 touchdowns as a senior. California’s Jared Goff, the consensus top QB prospect, threw 43 touchdowns by comparison in the Pac-12. It’s worth noting that Wentz did break his wrist in October, and had an excellent showing in the Senior Bowl.

Cabot made note that Jackson is unlikely to be scared off of Wentz as an option strictly because of his FCS background, having coached Joe Flacco to the playoffs twice when he was the Ravens QB coach.

Wentz is essentially the polar opposite type of prospect Manziel was. He has little fanfare, prototypical size, experience in a pro offense, and no character-related dark clouds hovering over him. He lacks Manziel’s gaudy stats, and a Heisman Trophy, but those do not always translate into NFL success.
