Tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET on Showtime Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KO) will face Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (30-1, 27 KO) in a battle for the WBA World middleweight title, and potentially to find out the next opponent for Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Quillin rebounded from a draw against Andy Lee early this year with a vicious knockout of Michael Zerafa in his most recent fight, but the victory did little to improve his standing with boxing fans. Knocking off Jacobs would be more valuable, but ultimately all roads lead to Golovkin.

Kid Chocolate Talks Golovkin, Overlooking Daniel Jacobs

Quillin has expressed no fear of Golovkin, but merely by talking about him at length, he gives off an impression that he’s overlooking Jacobs. That would be an error in judgment; Jacobs has had shaky moments, and faced mostly low-level opposition, but he has real power in both hands.

Jacobs has won his last 10 fights in a row, all by knockout or stoppage. This fight, vs. a fellow Brooklyn native, will easily be the most important of his career. The two fighters maintain they are friends, but won’t let that get in the way of trying to hurt each other when the bell rings.

“I respect him and I respect his family and there's nothing but love at the end of the day, but what that means right now is nothing because we're fighting for our legacy,” Jacobs said.

Most importantly for Jacobs, he needs to make sure he has his guard up for 12 rounds. Jacobs’ chin as exposed in his last fight when Sergio Mora, a fighter with nine knockouts in 34 fights, floored him shortly after tasting the canvas himself.

Quillin is the most heavy-handed opponent of Jacobs’ career, and he hasn’t proven he can defend himself for 12 rounds.

Prediction: Quillin def. Jacobs by KO (Round 5)
