For a team that is packed with offensive-minded players, the Heat are gaining headway via a different way -- defense.

Imagine a team that boasts the likes of Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Goran Dragic, Luol Deng and Gerald Green, and you are bound to see some wild offensive sets that could blow any team away.

But then again it would be best to remember that defense still wins games and apparently that is where the Heat are focusing right now as pointed out by the Miami Herald.

And Miami has been making quite a name for itself lately, becoming one of the NBA’s teams that is hard to shoot against. The unlikely anchor of it all is a kid named Hassan Whiteside, who has certainly made a living swatting out shots for his team.

“Man,” Bosh said via the Palm Beach Post. “You don’t think he can get better at something he’s already really good at, but he’s damn good this year.”

But make no mistake about it, the Heat are seeing some great defensive gems from the likes of Wade, Dragic and Green. They have made it hard for the three-point bombers to connect, making Miami a difficult team to score on.

Bosh lauds the guards more for their efforts, particularly Dragic, who has been struggling with his offensive artillery.

“He’s done a great job staying in front of the ball and making guys work,” Bosh said. “He puts his chest into the ball.”

With defense proving to be key for the Heat, one can just imagine how the squad could be once their offensive end starts clicking. Some players are struggling, but given time the Heat could be equally dangerous on both ends.

And seeing as they are bent on recovering from a disastrous season, Miami is indeed looking good all thanks to the old reliable formula of defense.
