The game between the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels had to be postponed due to continuous rainfall Saturday. The match was called off at about 7 pm local time when officials, despite trying hard to resume play, decided to abandon it. The match was called off after about 4 hours of delay.

The game has been rescheduled for Sunday. For the first time at the Rangers Ballpark, it will be played as part of a doubleheader.

It continued raining even after the match had been postponed and as per the weather forecast it continued raining post-midnight as well.

Yu Darvish (16-9), who missed his game last week, will start the game Sunday for Texas while Derek Holland (11-6) who was scheduled to start Saturday will get the second game.

The Associated Press quoted Angels manager Mike Scioscia as saying: "You know what, we're hanging around. I feel we're lying in the weeds, and if we keep winning, I think we're going to have an opportunity to get there."

Meanwhile, the Mariners were defeated by Oakland 7-4 in 10 innings. This victory helped the A's move within 2 1/2 games of the lead. Scioscia and his team kept an eye on the game during the four-hour delay.

"Obviously every time they win, it puts them closer to where they want to be, and the help we're looking for hopefully will come at some point," Scioscia said. "We've got five games.

"From some perspective it seems like it's a blink of an eye. Another perspective, it seems like it's a lifetime. ... We have to put up wins, that's what we need to do. Hopefully we'll get the opportunity get our toe in the door."

A playoff spot for Texas is certain if they win one of their two games Sunday. Rain is predicted for the first game. The second game starts about six hours later. These will be the last home games of the regular season for the Rangers.

The Angels realize that playing a doubleheader could be a very challenging scenario for them due to the possibility of playing an extra game to advance to the playoffs.

The Angels would be forced into a tiebreaker game if they end up in a tie for the second wild card. If that happens, they have Greinke and Santana as options to pitch on short rest.

Having won 10 out of their last 14 games, the Angels look pretty good at the moment.
