Lawrence Taylor should be commended for overcoming his drug addiction and probably can share inspirational stories about his personal life.

Asking him to speak about anything else is just plain dumb.

Jerry Jones' Comments About Greg Hardy And Ray Rice Are Night And Day

The latest case in point were comments he made in an appearance at Empire City Casino in New York, where he rushed to the defense of Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy, whom Sir Lawrence claims is being vilified by an overzealous media.

Taylor lauded the Dallas Cowboys for giving Hardy a second chance, the New York Daily News reported.

Greg Hardy Has No Reason To Emulate Ray Rice's Remorse

"I like that. I think they needed to give him another chance because it's not clear what happened," Taylor said. "It's not really 100% clear what happened. So listen, I think they need to give him a chance.

"I think he is going to make the best of that second chance because I'll tell you what, he could have been screwed. A lot of people have been screwed in this league. But he got a do-over, and you got to do the best you can. You got to make the best you can with that do-over."

The Daily News then proceeded to review Hardy's case, in which he was found guilty of assaulting his then-girlfriend Nicole Holder, who testified that Hardy threw her from a bed, threw her into a bathtub and then threw her onto a futon that had guns all over it.

Taylor also was quoted once as saying, "You can take a substance that works in your system, but then you take this over here that's not banned, and this over here that's not banned, but if you mix them together, you've got a banned substance in your system," according to brainyquote.com.

He also isn't the only one sticking up for Hardy, but he seems to be getting his information strictly from Hardy's Twitter account, in which the player had changed his bio to read, "Innocent until proven guilty-lack of knowledge and information is just ignorance-the unjust/prejudicial treatment of diff categories of people is discrimination," last week, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Hardy changed his bio again after a meeting with Cowboys coach Jason Garrett.
